AnyoneNear works in Chrome on your computer, so it only watches your groups while that computer is awake and Chrome is running. With Keep It Running, we set your computer up so that happens on its own, all day, even after a restart, and we make sure it stays that way.

How it works

You don't need to be technical. Just be at the computer AnyoneNear runs on.
What we change on your computer
- Your computer stays awake while it's plugged in. The screen can still turn off to save power; only sleep is turned off. On a laptop, closing the lid while plugged in no longer puts it to sleep.
- Chrome starts quietly when you sign in. After a restart or a Windows update, Chrome opens in the background and AnyoneNear picks up monitoring on its own.
- Nothing else. No other settings, no other software, and it's easy to undo.
Two things only you can do:
- In Chrome, stay signed in to Facebook ("Keep me signed in").
- Leave the computer on and plugged in. Restarts are fine; shutting it down stops monitoring until it's back on.
Why not just run it in the cloud?
Facebook flags logins from data centers, and running it on our servers would mean holding your Facebook password. Keeping it on your own computer, signed in as you, is the safest way to protect your account. If you don't want to leave your own computer on, ask us about a small always-on computer that lives at your shop.
Questions
Windows says "Windows protected your PC"
That's Windows being careful with downloaded files. Click More info, then Run anyway. The file is a plain setup script you can open in Notepad to read first. On the done-for-you call we handle this for you.
Mac says the file is from an unidentified developer
Right-click (or Control-click) the file, choose Open, then Open again. If it still won't run, open Terminal, type bash (with a space), drag the file into the window and press Return.
Will this use a lot of electricity?
Very little. The screen still turns off, and a computer sitting awake with the screen off uses about as much power as a light bulb.
Can I do it myself?
Yes. These are the same setup files we use on the call. Download the one for your computer and double-click it; it explains each change before making it.

How do I know it's working?
Open the AnyoneNear dashboard in Chrome. The Uptime card shows how much of your active hours monitoring was on over the last 7 days. After setup it should stay close to 100%.
